There are many things to do
in the Algonquin Park area, so we thought we would provide you some
images of our
lovely northern countryside. Every photo on this website were taken near the
rental
cottage or on trails nearby.

Have you ever seen a Beaver Dam?
There's plenty of HIKING
trails closeby,
and we'll point you in the right
direction for
the best sights to see. Algonquin Park hosts
many fine trails for
all levels of hikers. At
your request, we can provide maps to some of
our local
hiking trails, so you can enjoy a romp
right from your doorstep.
This beaver dam is a masterpiece on one of our horseback trails (on our all day ride)

Do you love the art of photography?
Central Ontario is a PHOTOGRAPHERS'
utopia,
with rich landscapes and natural
beauty waiting to be
captured on film. Many of these lovely photos on the
website
were taken right from the many trails that
dot the area, so access is simply a matter of
parking
your car and putting on your hiking boots.
Pictured is a swamp on one of our favorite trails

Are you an animal lover?
Algonquin Park is
home to many different types of
WILDLIFE and the only
way
to see them is to get out there!
Quiet walks along wooded trails will often produce
some of the
most incredible sightings. Moose, deer, elk, foxes and the snowshoe
hare, fishers,
pine martens,
ruffed grouse....they're there, and all
it takes is a bit of patience to see them. The beauty of
nature
is the act of SLOWING down and actually taking the time to look!
This female moose had a calf with her, and we surprised her just a mile from the cottage.
Love a Lakeside seat?
The Hastings Highlands area
boasts
hundreds of FRESHWATER LAKES
for your pleasure. No need to drive far,
there's a new one around
every corner.
Check out the map at the cottage to pick
the 'lake of the day' and pack yourself
a picnic. Bring your swimsuit, or your swim
trunks. Andon those lazy days,
try a dip
in the lovely lake near the cottage,
where a beautiful swim hole awaits.
This was an early May photo taken while watching two male loons fighting over a female.
Are you the type that likes to 'flog the water'?
You could fish on a new lake every day for your entire visit at the cottage!
With
thousands of acres of crown land in
the Algonquin area, your FISHING
OPPORTUNITIES are endless.
Our numerous lakes and streams are home to
bass, trout of all varieties, pan fish pike and pickerel. And every one is close and
most
have easily accessed boat launches.
Matt might be holding them, but I
caught the big one.

Are you an
Upland Game Hunter?
Bring your favorite hunting dog and Matt will point you to some
of our favorite HUNTING hotspots. There are grouse and hares
aplenty, and the trails are an easy walk with
some really fabulous
scenery along the way. What better way to enjoy a nice fall day in the
Highlands with your
four footed friend?
Of course, your dog is
welcome at the rental cottage, provided he behaves himself. If he's
an outdoor dog,
bring your crate, there's lots of room on the porch.

Do you
prefer a paddle?
The still waters of our area lakes and
rivers, and the proximity of
Algonquin
Park's canoe routes will mean lots of
great CANOEADVENTURES at hand
- and no long drives! In fact, you can
put
your canoe in at the bottom of the laneway,
and explore Papineau
creek to the north,
and Williams Lake. Or, if canoe rentals
are necessary,
you can head right to
Maynooth
and get one at the
Algonquin
Backpackers
for your convenience!
Three of the quality canoes we often
rent from Maynooth (Algonquin Backpackers)
If you are a larger boat
owner, and want a nice day out water-skiing or touring around,
there are several very
large lakes within minutes -
Paudash Lake and Baptiste Lake to
the south, and Aylen Lake, Kaminiskeg Lake (and
river), Papineau and Bark Lakes to the north.
These lakes have exceptionally good boat launches, beaches, and picnic areas
onshore.
They're very large expanses and you can
spend an entire day exploring the many bays and inlets.
Are you a HORSE OWNER?
The cottage for rent hosts a riding
paddock (pictured) with two brightly lit
newer barns, complete with two box stalls
and thirteen tie stalls. There are
turnout
paddocks (electric fencing) and the Hastings
Heritage trail
crosses the driveway, for
excellent access to our extensive trail system.
- why not book a holiday for you AND your horse?
Pictured are paddock, garage and barn behind the cottage - a great plus for horse owners.

Are you
looking for a great place to bring your ATV?
Our area boasts some of the finest Ontario ATV trails, with easy
trails for those who
simply want to tour,
and trails loaded with
mud holes and obstacles for those who want to get DIRTY. Maps
of our trail
system are provided, and you can ride for a few hours,
or ALL DAY on the loops that leave
right
from the cottage. The
trails are dotted with restaurants and pubs for your rest
stops, with
plenty of
on trail gas stations. Best of all, there is a barn available
for use, and ARTIC
CAT, BOMBARDIER,
and POLARIS dealerships
right in Bancroft, (not to mention Canadian Tire!) should
you need parts.

Have you ever REALLY experienced a cottage rental in winter ??
Just one of the many picturesque Spruce Bogs
you can see from our trails
There's no brown snow here
- JUST WHITE! Our area doesn't do the long winter huddle
- we're all for WINTER
HOLIDAYS!
There is no greater experience than getting out into
the
powder to play. Our area is
a hotspot in the winter months, with
snowmobiling, skiing,
ice fishing, cross country skiing, tubing, dogsledding, and
horseback riding all at your fingertips.
When was the
last time you warmed your hands by a fire, with rosy cheeks aglow from a fresh day
in the
good outdoors? Our cottage for rent is
warm and cozy and has a fabulous view, where you
can cuddle down, relax & enjoy the
solitude....or get dressed and get
outside for some fun in the fluffy
stuff! A stay at our cottage rental near
Algonquin Park guarantees just that!
Do you love Snowmobiling?
Algonquin is
a SNOWMOBILERS PARADISE!
because of the mountainous terrain, we have
snow even when the rest of Ontario
is going
without. The cottage is fully equipped to
handle a group of snowmobilers,
with plenty
of parking, a gas station in nearby Maynooth, and
the main trunk of
the snowmobile system
crossing the laneway. The best trails are at
your fingertips,
with many resorts and fuel
depots along trails.
One group of sledders that took a tour - this photo was taken on our trails at the farm.
Bancroft boasts a
Canadian Tire, plus Ski Doo, Polaris and Arctic Cat dealerships close
at hand. Trail
maps are available
from Highland Wilderness Tours (that's us!) and
of course, if you want to give it a
whirl, there are guided snowmobile tours
available leaving from the farm . Our trails are groomed and maintained by our home
club,
the Maple Leaf Snowskimmers,
and thanks to them, we feel we have some of the
best trails in Ontario!

Have you ever tried dogsledding?
The Central Ontario
corridor is home to many
DOGSLEDDING OUTFITTERS
and dogteams are a
common sight on our trails. In fact, you can dogsled right
at the farm,
should you choose to add that to your list of
winter activities. This is a unique
sport that is fun
for the
whole family, and anyone can try it! Where else can you
find a
Cottage Rental with dogsledding at your fingertips?
A traveler from Denmark joined us in January for a week at the cottage and tried
some of our activities.
Need something to do on a rainy day?
Take the twenty minute

PARK VISITORS CENTRE.
The amazing displays will
tell you all about the park and it's inhabitants, from past to
present.
