Our very first sporthorse mare, we are very excited about April.  It was a
stroke of good luck when her previous owner called me to tell me she was for
sale.  I'd had my eye on her for a while, but when opportunity finally knocked,
I whisked her home.  April is a very intelligent, energetic young filly who loves to
strut her stuff.  She's easy to handle, and loves people.  She's very willing
under saddle, and with the help of Dave Peterson, she broke to saddle
very easily in spring 2005, got lots of trail riding under her belt all summer,
and now in 2006 is ready to get down to the nitty gritty in her training!

When I first got April, I have to say I was amazed by the difference
in her disposition from what I am used to.  You can't walk past
the paddock without having April stop what she is doing and follow
you down the fence.  She is very curious about what you are up to,
and will leave her hay to go and watch.  She is very willing to try what is
asked of her.   If she misbehaves, a gentle correction is all it takes and
she's putty in your hands.   April has a natural & obvious talent
that is most definitely a product of her breeding.    Her Sire,
"Prinz Habicht", (Trakehner) is pictured below, and I have to say,
I'm IMPRESSED with dad!  April loves to jump, has a nice floating
trot & canter, and gives naturally to the bit with a very nice mouth.

April Trot Sunset.jpg (37881 bytes)One of my favorite things about April is that she has a long,
energetic and powerful stride. She's never in a hurry, and will
canter with a nice, slow legged pace that is quite comfortable.
Combine that with her elegant grey color, bright face and beautiful
chrome markings, and you can see she is a really special horse.
With nice conformation, she certainly has the moves - I have seen
April really putting on a SHOW when playing, and she's really got it!
Now she's finally ready for more, and we are thrilled that she is going
so nicely under saddle and absolutely tickled that Chantelle
(see facilities page) is able to take her on and bring her along to
a higher level. We want to reach her fullest potential, and this year
she will enter our riding program to strut her stuff.

April is just the nicest, most willing mare you've ever seen.
It's no surprise that she and Chantelle make a GREAT pair.
Here you can see April and Chantelle working over some
small jumps, and of course, between all the fun stuff April is
working on her flatwork and bending exercises. I don't think
it ever occurs to April NOT to do what she is asked! And I
really can't say enough good things about this sweet natured
mare. Watch for her, because she's at the beginning of her
career and we are expecting GREAT things from her!

Who wouldn't love
to own such a pretty
girl with such a kind
and gentle eye?

prince habicht dressage2.jpg (25245 bytes)prince habicht hunt.jpg (39170 bytes)April is a well bred young mare - she has a nice
pedigree!  Her dam is "Folly" (see her page) and her sire
"Prinz Habicht" (Otto) a gorgeous jet black Trakhener stallion.
A Son of Carino, this 16.1 hh, heavily chromed and very
talented stallion threw two exceptional fillies with Folly,
April's mother.  We are lucky enough to have April, and
eventually will be taking her for CSHA inspections.

Isn't her father just plain lovely? Click here for his video,
