The following information is to assist
you, our customer, in preparing for your coming snowmobile tour with our company.
Requirements for
International Travellers, Children, and Teenagers
(or anyone who does not hold a valid Ontario Driver's
License)
are outlined below.
UNLICENSED SNOWMOBILERS (ages 12 and up)
To legally operate a snowmobile (on property other than your own) a resident of Ontario must have a Snowmobile License or any other class of Ontario Drivers License.
For those without valid Ontario Driver's License, you can take a Driver Training Course which is overseen by the OFSC (Ontario Federation of Snowmobile Clubs) The practical course is conducted over a minimum of six hours and is approved by the Ministry of Transportation. You must be 12 years of age the day the course begins. (to find a course, follow this link)
The course fee is currently $30.00 Canadian. You can email the OFSC with specific questions, or to request additional information here.
INTERNATIONAL TRAVELLERS
For international travellers that have a valid driver's license in their own country, you can apply for an IDP, or International Drivers' Permit (see below) in your country of origin. Virtually all countries overcame international boundaries in 1949 with a treaty signed by the UN, making allowances for international driver permits without having to take an additional test. An IDP is available to those over eighteen for a nominal fee. In Canada, the IDP is overseen by CAA (Canadian Automobile Authority)
Please be aware that if you are stopped by the OPP and charged for driving a snowmobile without a license, the fine is currently $90. Those choosing to take a guided tour are responsible for ensuring that they are properly licensed, and will be responsible for fines resulting from improper licensing.
