Having never visited our area,
you might be wondering - when is the best
time to see the colors, either by horseback,
from the comfortable seat of your car, or on foot?
Peak colors are from
September 15 - November 1! Our first leaves to change are the brilliant
reds and
oranges of our expansive hard maple forests in late September. Then, it's the poplar
and
soft maple forests, adding their vibrant yellow. And last, at the end of
October, when the rest of the
forest is deep in slumber, we have the impressive Tamarack,
the only pine tree to lose it's needles after
shining for weeks with a bright yellow
light. It carpets the trails with color and sends a final
warm glow over the
hillsides in early November, giving us the last glimpse of fall's
splendor before winter
creeps over the hillsides.
