For Newcomer, English Riders who want to
get a taste of what the sport of Eventing is all about!
Horse Trails Camp is some serious stuff for horse lovers.

Our summer horse campers have always
loved our jumping program and so do we!
Riders with intermediate and up jumping
skills will love our 'Novice Horse trials' Program
- great introduction to the sport!! The theme
is dressage, stadium jumping and cross country,
the three elements of an Eventing program.
Riders need to have the basics, be trotting
over crossrails, and comfortable cantering.

We begin with a skills assessment at the farm.
Riders are matched to their horses and we begin!
Daily lessons incorporate everything the kids
will need to know about competing at an event.
We will take you through the dressage phase,
teaching you all about the dressage, or 'flatwork'
phase of horse trials. It's fun, and it is a great way
to improve riding skills. I personally find dressage
a great way to get our campers thinking about
their position, and concentrating on precision.
A great overview of dressage in eventing.

As the week progresses our campers work
on gymnastics, & course work over stadium jumps -
and of course, they get a few sessions over our beginner
friendly event course, built with our campers in mind.
Solid but inviting jumps encourage our campers
and give them confidence - and at week's end, we have a
Short Course Demo for the folks! Less nerve wracking
than a show, the demo shows the PARENTS what's
to be expected from an eventing program - it's fun
to watch and the parents always love seeing the kids
strut their stuff with confidence and skill.

Camp is geared towards a variety of skill levels.

Learning to Jump - having FUN!.

Our facility has a full range of jumps and fillers,
and a large 240 x 130 sand ring, which we make FULL
use of during camp. Our horses are friendly and talented
beasts that fit many levels of rider, and we do our very
best to get a good fit so that our campers can relax and
enjoy the camp and it's many benefits. Eventing Camp
includes segments on building and designing varioius
courses, finding distances, developing form, and many
other very helpful lessons, with the goal of improving
their skills WHILE totally enjoying themselves! When
the girls are ready, we hit the new cross country course
we've built here just for our campers - the footing is good,
and it's suited to those who are just beginning in the sport.
Our course includes a big log, a water jump, small banks,
rock wall, cord wood, a ditch and a mini trakehner - and
there's even more in the works! We're proud of the program
we've developed here - and the kids LOVE the course. It
is just the right amount of adrenalin for them while still
giving them confidence and belief in themselves that they
CAN do it - this is a very important aspect for their future!

Simple Cross Country for a TASTE of adventure!

With alot of elbow room here, it's only
natural that we should make use of cross
country as a source of Jumping Fun! Simple,
low level jumps will encourage our campers
to enjoy the thrill of jumping natural obstacles
over grassy terrain, while keeping them safe
and feeling comfortable . If your rider has
not tried natural jumps yet, or just plain
LOVES it - this is just the camp to embrace
the excitement and give it a whirl.

Every year we add fun and interesting jumps!

Stadium Jumping - Fun and Challenging

If you have kids, you know how much they love
a colorful course of jumps, and drool over being
able to give it a whirl! We have excellent stadium
jumps, and lots of great 'decorations' for our course.
The girls get a chance to learn how to set courses,
and the reasoning behind different distances and lines
on course. It's always tons of fun and the kids adore it!

HORSE CAMP = NEW FRIENDS!

Our Eventing Camp girls have ALWAYS enjoyed the company of other kids
riding at the same level and have the same serious 'eat it up' mentality! By the
the time that campers are ready for cross country they have proven that they
have the dedication to developing a good seat, good safe position, and have
a determination to succeed. Eventing camp has a FANTASTIC return rate, with
campers returning yearly to catch up with old friends, and make new ones!

OF COURSE WE HAVE TO SWIM!

There are a variety of lakes close to the farm,
and we have an 18' pool for convenience.
After getting warmed up in the ring or on the
trails, our campers cancool off and
enjoy some downtime from riding.

As always, we go for full
immersion!  From our cozy cabin
with nightly crackling campfire
in an on farm wilderness
campsite ~ to our nightly ritual
of goofing around & relaxing
by a roaring fire or watching a
movie - it's an atmosphere
that's proven itself to be a
popular teenage experience!
There's room for everyone
in this spacious cabin - but
no fighting over the couch!

Relaxing at night and enjoying
marshmallows is a main attraction
of all our horse camps!

So if your young rider is relaxed around
horses, is obsessed with JUMPING, is
solid & comfortable at walk trot & canter,
has a good start on the jumping basics,
is willing to learn an in depth focus on
what it takes to jump well - even if that
means focusing & working until they're
exhausted, then this horse camp is a
perfect solution! Not for kids who aren't
100% serious about their riding - it's for
those who want to advance in the sport.
Oh it's FUN alright. But in a different
way than most summer horse camps.

Watching our girls rise to the challenge of some in depth work,
makes this camp one of my favorites! And best of all, on pickup
day, we have a 'mini' event where folks get to see a short course
eventing format that will show them what their campers have
learned over the course of the week. It's always a BIG THRILL
to watch them strut their stuff, and it's a great end to the week.

and a list of what to bring to horse camp.

Just a fantastic opportunity for newcomers to get their feet wet at EVENTING!
